GenSando Brings Caregiving to CA Women’s Wealth Summit

SACRAMENTO, Calif. | October 29, 2026
At the invitation of California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom and her team, GenSando Founder Elizabeth Gore joined California's Summit on Women's Wealth & Well-Being to bring attention to a group often overlooked in conversations about women's financial security: the Sandwich Generation.
"I once stood in a checkout line with pads for my daughter, Depends for my mom, and estrogen patches for me. The cashier looked at me like I was running a very confused pharmacy. I realized that cart was the whole Sandwich Generation in one basket, and GenSando was born right there in aisle seven."
— Elizabeth Gore, Founder of GenSando
The summit brought together approximately 100 leaders from government, business, and philanthropy, including representatives from Goldman Sachs, Kaiser Permanente, Stanford University, and the Blue Shield of California Foundation.
Elizabeth spoke on the summit's opening panel, "The True Cost of Care," alongside Eve Rodsky of the Fair Play Policy Institute. The conversation was moderated by Liz Cheong of the California Partners Project and introduced by Joanna Drake of Magnify Ventures.
THE TRUE COST OF CARE
Behind Elizabeth's humor is a serious reality.
According to AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, 63 million Americans are family caregivers, and approximately three in five are women. AARP estimates that unpaid family caregiving represents nearly $1 trillion in economic value annually.
These are the Family CEOs. The people managing medical appointments, household finances, school schedules, aging parents, growing children, and everything in between. It's a demanding role that rarely comes with a paycheck, benefits, or even a lunch break.
And the cost goes far beyond time. Family caregivers often sacrifice career opportunities, savings, retirement security, and their own well-being while keeping everyone else's lives running.
Caregiving isn't just emotional. It's economic.
GIVING FAMILY CAREGIVERS A VOICE
Founded by Elizabeth and Nick Papadopoulos, GenSando is a social enterprise bringing awareness, education, practical tools, and a healthy dose of humor to the realities of family caregiving.
Reflecting on the importance of the summit, Elizabeth thanked Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom for bringing attention to the Sandwich Generation.
"We're all living in the care economy, caring for parents, and caring for children, so we have to pay attention to this." Elizabeth said in a video following the event.
For GenSando, the summit represents an opportunity to help move caregiving beyond a private family responsibility and into a larger conversation about economic security, smarter support, and meaningful change.
Because behind every caregiving statistic is a real family, a real story, and sometimes one very revealing shopping cart.
The Sandwich Generation deserves to be heard. And GenSando is helping make that happen.
