Could Technology Make Helping Mom or Dad Easier? ❤️📱

From today’s caregiving tools to tomorrow’s innovations, technology is helping lighten the load.
📸 WHY THIS PHOTO?
Real families. Real memories. Real life.
It was the 2000s, and Guitar Hero was all the rage. A few colored fret buttons, a strum bar, and suddenly you were the rock star you’d always dreamed of becoming.
— Kim, Brand Strategy
If only mastering caregiving were that easy.
😂 LAUGH LINE
Technology can drive cars and write novels, but we still need four siblings to figure out who took Dad to the doctor.
Technology hasn't solved the family group text yet. But it's starting to help in some pretty surprising ways.
🥬 LETTUCE EXPLAIN
What if technology could take some of the work out of caring for someone you love?
If you're part of the Sandwich Generation, you're managing appointments, medications, insurance paperwork, and a family group text that never sleeps. All while juggling your own family, career, and a laundry pile developing its own zip code.
The good news? Technology is finally starting to catch up with the chaos.
New tools are helping families manage medications, learn unfamiliar skills, and stay connected. So who’s putting them to work? We did a little digging.
📱 TECHNOLOGY WITH A LITTLE HEART
Three companies showing what useful caregiving technology looks like today.
🧠 TRUALTA: THE CAREGIVING MANUAL WE NEVER GOT
Nobody hands you instructions when Mom starts needing help. Trualta offers online education and support on topics from dementia care to everyday caregiving challenges.
The benefit: More confidence. Less Googling everything at midnight.
💊 MEDISAFE: “DAD, DID YOU TAKE YOUR PILLS?”
Medisafe helps organize medication schedules. Its Medfriend feature can notify a trusted person when a scheduled dose hasn't been marked as taken. A notification doesn't prove whether someone actually took a pill, but it can prompt a useful check-in.
The benefit: A simpler routine and one less thing to hold in your head.
❤️ CARINGBRIDGE: LET THE VILLAGE HELP
When someone is ill, updating everyone can become another exhausting job. The nonprofit CaringBridge offers one place to share health updates and rally support.
The benefit: Less repeating yourself. More people showing up.
Different tools. One very human goal: making life a little easier for the people doing the caring.
And sometimes, the biggest breakthroughs are the smallest ones.
👀 YOU MAY BE NOTICING...
Sometimes progress looks like:
- One fewer phone call to make.
- A medication reminder that reaches the right person.
- Practical advice when you’re out of answers.
- More time connecting and less time coordinating.
Because caregiving isn't just about the big decisions. It's the hundreds of little details that add up.
If today's tools can take a few things off our plates, imagine what tomorrow's technology might do.
🔮 WHAT'S COMING AROUND THE CORNER?
Imagine finding Dad's insurance information without digging through three drawers. An app pulling together notes from his last cardiology visit before his next appointment. Wearable technology noticing changes in Mom's daily routine. And siblings sharing responsibilities without another 14-message group text.
Some of these tools are already here. Others are just around the corner.
The goal? Important information in one place, fewer group texts, less stress, and more time with the people you love.
At GenSando, we're developing an app to help people caring for aging parents or loved ones stay organized, coordinate care, and spend less time managing all the moving pieces.
And we believe the best technology is shaped by the people who will actually use it.
That's why we're inviting a small group of people who help care for aging loved ones to get an early look at what we're building and share their feedback.
If you're helping Mom, Dad, or someone you love navigate getting older, even if you don't think of yourself as a “caregiver”, we'd love to hear from you.

An early look. Honest feedback. No tech expertise required.
🥪 THE GENSANDO TOOL: START WITH ONE THING
What’s the ONE caregiving task creating the most unnecessary stress?
Finding important documents? Remembering appointments? Managing medications? Keeping relatives informed?
Pick one. Then look for a simple tool that could make it easier for everyone involved. The key is finding something that works for both you and your loved one, while respecting their privacy and independence.
You don't have to fix everything. Just find one thing that doesn't have to be so hard.
And while we’re starting small, one cartoon family had some pretty big ideas about what technology could eventually do for us.
📼 VHS VIBES:
THE JETSONS WERE ONTO SOMETHING
Remember when The Jetsons promised flying cars and robot housekeepers? We’re still waiting on the cars.
But technology that helps organize caregiving and frees us up to be together? Now we’re talking. Honestly, we’d take one organized family calendar over a flying car any day.
We may still be waiting for Rosie, but some of today’s technology is already helping older adults stay stronger and more independent.
🌟 WOW PICK: THE EXERCISE COACH + EXERBOTICS 💪
Smarter Strength Training for the Aging Body
As we age, we tend to lose muscle strength and power, which can make everyday activities like climbing stairs and getting out of chairs more difficult.
Founded by husband-and-wife team Brian and Gerianne Cygan, The Exercise Coach uses Exerbotics, computerized strength-training technology that personalizes resistance and tracks progress.
With coach-led, 20-minute workouts and more than 200 locations nationwide, it's helping people focus on strength and independence as they age.
Because sometimes the best caregiving technology helps Mom or Dad stay independent longer. ❤️
So we’ve explored what technology can do. Now we’re curious what YOU wish it could do.
🎤 ADD YOUR VOICE
If technology could make ONE part of caregiving easier, what would you choose?

📱 FAMILY IT: Can technology help me check on Dad without making him feel watched?
Some smart-home systems use motion sensors or activity alerts instead of cameras. Ask Dad what feels helpful, who can see the data, and when an alert would be sent. Peace of mind shouldn’t turn his living room into reality TV.
💰 FAMILY CFO: Are we creating new risks by sharing health or financial information with apps?
Potentially. Choose reputable services, review privacy policies, limit what you share, and enable multifactor authentication when available. Convenience is great. An identity-theft side quest? Not so much.
💼 MIDLIFE MOGUL: Can AI help me make sense of complicated caregiving paperwork?
AI may help explain general terms or draft questions for a professional, but it can be wrong. Verify medical, legal, insurance, and financial details, and don't upload private records to a tool you haven't vetted. Think research assistant, not all-in-one advisory firm.
❤️ MIDLIFE MARRIAGE: What if one of us loves technology and the other avoids it?
Choose one shared frustration, test one simple solution, and agree on how you’ll use it. Tech should reduce household tension—not start another debate about whose turn it is to reset the password.
Still curious? We’ve rounded

And speaking of what’s next, GenSando co-founder Elizabeth Gore recently explored another fascinating possibility: robots helping care for aging loved ones.

🤖 Robotics: The Next Big Frontier in Eldercare?
On The Big Idea, Elizabeth asked technology entrepreneur Adrian Balfour when compassion and robotics might come together to solve real challenges in eldercare.
Could robots one day help care for aging loved ones? It’s an intriguing possibility, though hands-on eldercare robotics still has important hurdles ahead.
WATCH ELIZABETH EXPLORE THE FUTURE OF ROBOTICS
The eldercare conversation begins around 15:05.
But whether it's robots, reminders, or technology we haven't imagined yet, there's one thing it can't replace.
❤️ FEEL SEEN
If you've ever thought, ‘There HAS to be an easier way,’ you're not alone.
Technology won't solve everything. But if it takes a few responsibilities off your plate, maybe there's more time for a conversation, a laugh, or simply sitting beside someone you love.
